National Election Committee Urges Citizens to Register to Vote

PHNOM PENH: The National Election Committee (NEC) on Thursday has analyzed the quantity of citizens that registered to vote for the commune election, and has considered the number way lower than expected. On the second day of registration, only 24,715 people went for registration. The NEC expects that almost 1,700,000 people will register for the 2021 elections.

In response to the low number of registrations, the NEC has called on citizens whose names are on the 2020 voter list to review their registrations in their commune halls or at the NEC’s website – voterlis.nec.gov.kh. Voters also have the choice of downloading the mobile app, Voterlist KH, where their names can be checked.

The NEC has reminded that all citizens who have not yet registered should do so, including Cambodians who have just reached the age of 18 or those who have moved to another commune. The Committee has also stated that all political parties, associations, media and authorities should help to disseminate the registration period of the commune election, guaranteeing the right of everyone to vote. Registration was opened on 12 October and will end on 30 of November in commune halls across the country.
